Ryan: Australia Shouldn’t Be Worried about Relationship with Mr. Trump

After a reported heated phone call between President Trump and Australia’s Prime Minister, top Congressional leaders are reaffirming ties with the long-time ally.

FOX’s Jared Halpern has more from Capitol Hill:

Senate Armed Services Committee chairman Republican John McCain called Australia’s Ambassador to the U.S. this morning to express unwavering support for the U.S.-Australia alliance.

It’s an alliance House Speaker Paul Ryan says isn’t in doubt:

(Ryan) “No, I don’t think Australia should be worried about its relationship with our new President or our country for that matter.”

The White House insists a weekend call between President Trump and the Prime Minister was cordial, but concede the President made clear he does not like a deal, agreed to during the last administration for the U.S. to accept refugees who had intended to settle in Australia.
