Minute Hand on “Doomsday Clock” Moves

The minute hand of the “Doomsday Clock” has been moved.

FOX’s Tonya J. Powers has more:

Two and a half minutes to midnight, that’s the update on the so-called “Doomsday Clock”. It symbolizes the threat of Apocalypse.

Rachel Bronson with the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists outlined the reasons for the change:

(Bronson) “The cavalier and reckless language used across the globe, especially in the United States during the presidential election and after around nuclear weapons and nuclear threats.”

She also cited what she called a “growing disregard for scientific expertise”:

(Bronson) “Expertise that is needed when it comes to responding to pressing global challenges, including climate change.”

The closest the clock has been to the symbolic sign of midnight has been two minutes, and that was in 1953.
