The oldest known gorilla in America has died.
FOX's Dave Anthony reports:
Colo made history back in 1956 becoming the first gorilla in the world to be born in a zoo. 60 years later:
"Happy Birthday to you!"
They threw her a birthday party at the Columbus Zoo in Ohio, that was back in December. On Tuesday, zoo officials say Colo died in her sleep, not long after a malignant tumor had been removed.
Colo far outlived typical captive gorillas by two decades. She was a mother of three and lived long enough to be a great great grandmother of three.
The zoo's president says Colo inspired people to help protect gorillas in their native habitat.
