Santa Disappointment?
What do you do when Santa doesn’t come through?
FOX’s Lisa Brady has some stress-reducing advice for parents:
The season of giving puts a big emphasis on getting, especially for kids, but even Santa might have trouble getting his hands on a Hatchling:
(Sites) “The hardest thing for a parent is to recognize that it is not the end of the world when you can’t provide the want.”
Conflict resolution counselor Veronica Sites, says instead of focusing on the didn’t-gets, do something positive together and create a memory:
(Sites) “We’re gonna do something different this year. It doesn’t have to be costly and it doesn’t have to be extravagant.”
During one difficult year, she and her then-young daughters built something together and it became a Christmas tradition.
She says instead of stressing about what’s expected, adjust the expectations and kids will adapt to it. Sites also says even teenagers tell her, it’s not really about the stuff:
(Sites) “Children want time. Oftentimes they won’t say it, but they want time from parents as much or more than they want an item.”
And that time together is priceless.
