President-elect Donald Trump confirms he received a letter from Russian President Vladimir Putin expressing hope for improved relations.

FOX's Jared Halpern has more from Washington:

In a letter dated December 15, Russian President Vladimir Putin expresses his hope to President-elect Trump for real steps to restore bilateral cooperation and a new level of collaboration on the international scene.

The President-elect says those thoughts are so correct, adding, he hopes both sides are able to live up to these thoughts and we do not have to travel an alternate path.

Details of the letter come after both leaders have put out statements this week calling for an expansion of nuclear capabilities.
