Put Your Mind at Ease: U.S. Navy Restores Titles for Sailors
An “about-face” from the U.S. Navy.
FOX’s Jon Decker has more from the White House:
Effective immediately, sailors in the U.S. Navy may continue to be addressed by their rating titles. Historical titles like “boatswain’s mate”, or “hospital corpsman”, with corresponding alphanumeric codes.
The Chief of Naval Operations with the support of Secretary of the Navy and Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy made the announcement after hearing complaints from current and former sailors.
The CNO said in a statement that the removal of rating titles was unnecessary and detracted from accomplishing the Navy’s major goals.
The Navy’s Chief of Personnel said that the Navy will involve Sailors throughout the Fleet in tackling the issue of managing rating names.
