President-elect Donald Trump Announces Secretary Of Defense Pick

President-elect Donald Trump has made up his mind on who will lead the military, naming a retired general to the key Cabinet post.

    FOX’s Jared Halpern reports:

For days rumors have centered on retired Marine General James Mattis as the President-elect’s top choice for Secretary of Defense. A rumor confirmed by President-elect Trump at a “Thank You” rally for supporters in Cincinatti.

(President-elect Trump) “We are going to appoint ‘Mad Dog’ Mattis as our Secretary of Defense.”

Mattis retired from the Marines in 2013, after serving as commander of U.S. Central Command. To serve as Secretary of Defense he will need a waiver from Congress. Current law requires former military officers be retired at least seven years before leading the Pentagon.
