Chase Contenders Look to Stay Alive Sunday in Phoenix
Only two races left in the NASCAR season and this Sunday’s will determine just who has a chance to win the chase.
FOX’s Chris Hoenig has “FOX in the Fast Lane”:
Six drivers, two spots in the one-race Sprint Cup championship finale, that’s what’s at stake Sunday in the Can-Am 500 at Phoenix.
Joey Logano can clinch one with a 2nd-place finish if he leads just one lap. Kyle Busch can advance if he finishes 2nd and leads the most laps, but for Matt Kenseth, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch, a win is the only way they can guarantee that they’ll join Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards in the final four next weekend at Homestead.
Expect a lot of points and position watching, something Brad Keselowski says drivers try not to get too caught up in mid-race:
(Keselowski) “You need to go out and do the best you can as a race car driver and get the best finish and then it takes care of itself.”
Matt DiBenedetto will race. He was held out last week after a head injury that may or may not have been a concussion:
(DiBenedetto) “The consensus was that they were airing at the side of caution. I understand they’re looking out for my safety.”
Brian Scott will also race this weekend, next weekend, too. But never again after that. The 28-year-old announcing his retirement at season’s end.
