The Miami Marlins try to pick up the pieces without one of their biggest pieces.

FOX's Chris Hoenig reports:

The Marlins sang take me out to the ballgame, gathered around the mound and held a moment of silence ahead of their first game since the death of star pitcher Jose Fernandez...

The entire team wearing Hernandez's No. 16, which was retired immediately after the game. Lead-off hitter Dee Gordon, a lefty, took his first pitch right-handed in honor of his teammate and then, just two pitches later...

(FOX Sports Florida) "Drilled to right, it's deep... And it's gone! Dee Gordon has hit it out and the Marlins have a 1-0 lead."

Gordon's first homer of the year on FOX Sports Florida. The Marlins second baseman overcome with emotion as he returned to the dugout.
