Drone Package Delivery Coming Soon

    Someday Santa Claus might have more competition for airborne deliveries.

    FOX’s Chris Foster reports:

    UPS is testing drones for deliveries in remote locations, or during emergencies when, say, roads might be down.

    The company has a deal with the robot-maker CyPhy Works, with their first test successful, delivering an inhaler three miles over the Atlantic from Marblehead to Childrens’ Island Massachusetts.

    Federal rules prohibit flying commercial drones over anyone not involved in their operation with line of sight required at all times.

    Still, the technology’s being worked on, and those rules could be tweaked someday. Amazon is testing drones for home delivery and Wal-Mart’s developing ways to use them to increase warehouse efficiency.
