Does your dog really know what you're saying? A study may have the answer.

FOX's Lilian Woo reports:

Scientists think they have an answer to what many dog lovers wonder... Does your pet really understand some of what you're saying?

Well, researchers in Hungary scanned the brains of dogs listening to their trainer speaking and they found dogs processed words with the left hemisphere, and intonation with right hemisphere, just like humans.

They also only registered that they were being praised if the words and intonation were positive; so nonsense words in an encouraging voice, or meaningful words in a neutral tone, didn't have the same effect.

The study published in the Journal Science. The lead researcher notes the dogs participated voluntarily and were unrestrained and happy during the tests.
