Usain Bolt Still Has the World by a Step
The fastest man in the world, one more time. Blink and you missed it, Usain Bolt is an Olympic champ.
FOX’s Chris Hoenig is covering the Rio Games:
It wasn’t his fastest time ever, 9.81 seconds, but Usain Bolt winning the 100-meter sprint for the third straight Olympics. The first time anyone has ever won three-straight golds in the event.
USA’s Justin Gatlin finished with the silver, taking an early lead, but like so many competitors before, falling behind in the final 50 meters.
There was one world record on the track, breaking one that had stood for more than a decade and a half. Wayde van Niekerk of South Africa running the 400-meters in 43.03 seconds, erasing Michael Johnson’s record of 43.18 set in 1999.
American LaShawn Merritt taking the bronze in that race.
