The Federal Aviation Administration, for the first time ever, giving permission to a private company in Florida to leave earth’s orbit and head to the moon.
Moon Express planning to launch a probe late next year. The company hopes to eventually extract lunar resources, selling platinum or moon dust to earth-bound consumers.
The company is also competing for the Google Lunar-X prize, a $20 million award to the first private company that can land on the moon with a vehicle capable of moving around the lunar surface.
