Tony Stewart Looks for Back-to-Back Checkered Flags
NASCAR returns to Florida for the 4th of July weekend for the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway, Tony Stewart gets back to Victory Lane and a big day for NASCAR legend Richard Petty.
FOX’s Marghiee Teshineh has this week’s “FOX in the Fast Lane”:
Driver Tony Stewart is feeling confident after his win at Sonoma, but knows not to put too much pressure on himself this weekend at Daytona:
(Stewart) “We’re nine out right now and we could be 39 out by the time we leave Daytona, so it’s, there is a lot that can still happen still.”
Stewart appreciates the dedication of his crew chief and team for not giving up on him especially with all the negative chatter on social media and:
(Stewart) “Listening to people say I’m old and washed up. I know how old I am and I know I haven’t ran good for the last three years, but I felt like, you know, if we got things right it was still there.”
Stewart, who sat out part of the season due to a back injury, received a medical waiver from NASCAR to be eligible for the Chase, and must win at least one race and be in the 30 in points by the end of the regular season. Stewart is looking for his 50th career win.
And Happy 79th birthday this week to the King. Richard Petty born on July 2.
