‘Happy Birthday’ Song Is All Yours

A federal judge signs off on a settlement involving a popular song.

    FOX’s Jane Metzler has more:

That’s a Bluegrass version of ‘Happy Birthday’. The song now in the public domain after U.S. district court judge George King approved the agreement.

Last year he ruled music publishing giant Warner/Chappell did not the own the lyrics to one of the best known songs in the world. The company’s been collecting royalties on it for years and has agreed to pay back 14 million to people who shelled out licensing fees to use it.

Warner/Chappell insisting it did not charge people for singing the song, only those who used it commercially.
