If you're hitting the road over the holiday weekend, you may find some more traffic than usual.

FOX's Jack Callaghan explains:

Driven by lower gas prices, 43 million Americans are expected to travel over the upcoming Independence Day weekend and the American Automobile Association predicts the majority of them, about 84%, will travel by car.

The estimate is the highest since 2001. Gas prices are on average, 46 cents a gallon lower from a year ago, and because of that Triple A says drivers have already saved a combined $20 billion this year and 2016 should be a record setting year from summertime travel.

The extended holiday weekend for the Auto Club's estimates, starts Thursday June 30 and runs through Monday July 4.
