What do Fathers Really Know about Relationships?

Happy Father’s Day to all dads around the world. It’s a time to tell dad how much you appreciate him and thank him for all that he’s done, but what about going to him for relationship advice?

FOX’s Ashley Papa has a Father’s Day edition of “FOX on Love”:

As kids, we typically run to mom for dating advice. While dad’s may stay away from the subject, their love advice is crucial for kids navigating the dating scene.

Actor in the hit soap “The Bold and the Beautiful”, Sean Kanan, teaches his five children that love is about finding the one person who lifts you up and treats you the way you deserve to be treated:

(Kanan) “In the case of romantic love, it’s finding that partner that you want to spend the rest of your life with and have them be a witness to your life and you want to be a witness to their life and got through thick and thin with them no matter what.”

Kanan tells his son that every woman is someone’s sister and/or daughter, and they need to be respected. With heartbreak, he teaches his kids that unless you’re Romeo and Juliet, you get past it:

(Kanan) “It’s life’s way of giving us some pain so that we grow and possibly become better for the next relationship or that one relationship we were really meant to have as the defining relationship of our life.”

Like many dads, Kanan urges the “young and in love” to focus on real connections, not the virtual ones.
