Major Retailer Taking Steps to Protect Consumers & Merchants
Home Depot is suing two major credit card companies.
FOX’s Dave Anthony reports:
Home Depot is building a case against Visa and Mastercard. Filing a federal lawsuit claiming new chip credit cards in the U.S. are less secure than ones used around the world, putting retailers and customers at cyber risk.
Those cards still rely on hand-written signatures instead of pin codes. As a result, the Home Improvement store chain claims American consumers and merchants pay unrivaled fraud related costs. Visa and Mastercard say they’re reviewing the suit.
Two years ago, Home Depot’s system was hacked. 56-million credit and debit cards were affected. More than the Target breach and 53 million email addresses were exposed.
