It's a first for the Miss USA pageant. The first-ever military member was crowned on Sunday.
FOX's Tonya J. Powers has the story:
(Miss USA) "Miss USA 2016 is..."
It was the moment they'd all been waiting for and the title went to a 26-year-old Army Reserve officer in a stunning dress:
(Miss USA) "District of Columbia!"
Deshauna Barber, a first Lieutenant, is the first-ever military member to win Miss USA, and plans to use her platform to raise awareness of PTSD treatment for soldiers and suicide prevention.
Her pageant question was about women in combat:
(Barber) "It is important that we recognize that gender does not limit us in the United States Army."
Barber will go on to compete in the Miss Universe pageant.
