Detroit Muscle Cars Didn’t Make IIHS’s Top Picks for Safety

A new report from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety says that Detroit Muscle cars aren’t as tough as they should be in crash tests.

    FOX’s Jeff Monosso reports:

They sure sound and look good, but when three iconic muscle cars. The 2016 Ford Mustang, Chevy Camaro and Dodger Challenger were put to the safty test…

They didn’t make Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s top pick for safety status. Though IIHS president Adrian Lund says the Mustang earned the highest rating on four of the five tests:

(Lund) “If it just improved a small overlap crash performance from acceptable to good, it would be there.”

The Camaro also did well on that test, but had a lower rating for roof strength. The Challenger was the worst performer with lower ratings for roof strength, seat and headrest strength.
