Congress Looks for a Solution to the Opioid Epidemic

An opioid epidemic has Congress moving to respond to overdose deaths.

FOX’s Jared Halpern has more from Capitol Hill:

18 separate bills earned widespread support, a package including grant money for drug treatment and new prescription guidelines for doctors and first responders:

(Brooks) “We’re facing a public health crisis that crosses every socioeconomic, every geographic and every ethnic boundary.”

Indiana Republican Susan Brooks helped lead the House effort that has the backing of the White House and Democrats, but New York Congressman Elliot Engle argues:

(Engle) “But without new funding, communities won’t be able to fully implement these initiatives.”

A similar Senate measure passed earlier this year, the two sides must now come together before a final bill can move forward.
