Indiana Pacers Part Ways with Head Coach Frank Vogel

A change at the basketball helm in the Hoosier state.

FOX’s Chris Hoenig reports:

The Indiana Pacers are not renewing the contract of head coach Frank Vogel, whose six-year tenure included five trips to the playoffs and two appearances in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Pacers’ president of basketball operations Larry Bird making it clear Vogel’s successor will have lofty expectations:

(Bird) “I expect to be in the playoffs and make it through a few rounds and then see how good our players are really are. The first round is always nice, but you don’t really start getting into the playoffs and know what the playoffs are about until you get to the Eastern Conference Finals and the Finals, that’s when the basketball really starts.”

Bird saying that most players only listen to coaches for about three years, and it was time for a new voice.
