Zika Virus Funding for Almost $2B Unlikely to Get Approval Before Fall

    Any new federal funding to fight the Zika virus is unlikely to get the okay before the fall.

    Congressional Republicans responded to a nearly $2 billion request from the White House by approving legislation offering private-sector incentives for Zika virus treatment:

    (Ryan) “We will address this situation through the regular appropriations process as the need arises.”

    House Speaker Paul Ryan points to about $600 million in unspent Ebola funding the administration is redirecting to the Zika fight, any more, will have to wait.

    Appropriations Committee chairman Republican Hal Rogers told reporters he’d support supplemental funding if needed by the end of the fiscal year in October.
