The two had breakfast, but no breakthrough between the Supreme Court nominee and the top Judiciary Committee Republican.

FOX's Jared Halpern has more from the Capitol:

For an hour and ten minutes Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley met with Judge Merrick Garland for breakfast in the Senate dining room.

An aide to the Iowa Republican describes the meeting as cordial and pleasant, but adds Grassley explained to the judge that the senate won't be moving forward during this hyper-partisan election year.

Democratic Leader Harry Reid reacting on the Senate floor:

(Reid) "This is the behavior of a Senator who knows he's on the wrong side of the constitution and the wrong side of history."

Democrats are waging a public-relations push, so far unsuccessfully for a confirmation hearing and vote.
