Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Says 2016 Ford F-150 is Safest Truck

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety ranks the safest pickup trucks.

    FOX’s Jack Callaghan with details:

The safest new pick up truck on the road? According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, its the 2016 Ford F-150.

The Institute simulated driving full size Ford, Chevy, GMC, Dodge and Toyota pickups off a road course and into into a pole at 40 miles an hour. The Ford F-150 was the only truck in the group to score the top safety rating.

The Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra and Toyota Tundra all failed to protect the drivers lower extremities. The worst performer was the Dodge Ram, which the Institute says had a poor structure that lead to the instrument panel and steering wheel being pushed toward the driver.

Not tested: the Nissan Titan and the Honda Ridgeline, both being redesigned.
