FOX’s Alastair Wanklyn has more from the Asia Bureau:
The officer a colonel in North Korean military intelligence. South Korea’s government confirming the defection, but giving few details. It often keeps defections under wraps.
This days after the South said 13 North Korean restaurant workers defected, reportedly from a diner in northern China.
About 29,000 North Koreans are known to have escaped to the South since the North closed off its Communist state in the 1950’s. It punishes defectors’ families as a deterrent to others.
