MedStar Health Computers Hacked

There’s new information about a computer virus that hit some Washington area hospitals.

FOX’s Rachel Sutherland reports from Washington:

A vulnerable server at MedStar Health didn’t get the fix it needed, even though there was an available patch, and even though there were warnings about the server for nearly a decade.

The Associated Press reports hackers exploited design flaws in a JBoss application server supported by Red Hat and other organizations. The FBI is not discussing how the hackers broke in.

The attack severely disrupted operations at MedStar last week, patients couldn’t book appointments and staff couldn’t access voicemail. MedStar runs ten hospitals in the Washington area.
