Speaker Paul Ryan Believes Political Discourse Must Improve
House Speaker Paul Ryan is urging colleagues to lift up political discourse, even in the middle of a bruising Presidential campaign.
FOX’s Jared Halpern has more from Capitol Hill:
No candidates or politicians were named, but Speaker Paul Ryan’s message was clear: political discourse must improve:
(Ryan) “It did not use to be this bad and it does not have to be this way.”
Speaker Ryan telling a committee room filled here with Congressional interns to argue over each other’s ideas, but not question motives:
(Ryan) “People with different ideas; they’re not traitors. They’re not our enemies. They’re our neighbors, they’re our co-workers, they’re our fellow citizens.”
The lofty vision is being challenged by Democrats. A spokesman for Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid says Ryan’s words ring hollow until he withdraws support for Donald Trump.
