Three California Guards Charged with Beating a Mentally Ill Inmate to Death

Three California guards are charged with beating a mentally ill inmate to death.

FOX’s John Saucier reports:

The trio, all guards at the Santa Clara County Jail now facing charges of murder and assault. Prosecutors say the three beat 31-year-old inmate Michael Tyree to death because he refused to take his prescription medication.

Tyree was in a section of the jail where special needs inmates are housed. A judge has now ordered them to stand trial after the medical examiner testified Tyree’s death was clearly a homicide.

The sheriff had initially said the deputies found Tyree naked and unresponsive in his cell and that they tried to revive him.

The three are also charged in the beating of another inmate.
