The White House asks Congress for money to battle the Zika virus.

FOX's Steve Taylor reports from Washington:

The Obama administration wants Congress to approve spending $1.8 billion to help health authorities handle the Zika virus, which is spread by mosquito's.

The White House says there is active transmission of the virus in 26 Latin American and Caribbean countries now, and more than 50 cases have been confirmed among Americans who've returned recently from those countries.

The money would expand mosquito control, vaccine research, and other public health programs.
