Refugee Bill Has Been Blocked by Senate Democrats
A controversial refugee bill has been blocked in the Senate.
FOX’s Jared Halpern reports from the Capitol:
Senate Democrats have killed a House-passed measure designed to add scrutiny to Syrian refugees hoping to resettle in the U.S.:
(Reid) “Women, children and families fleeing persecution are not the enemy.”
Democratic Leader Harry Reid had suggested dropping a filibuster, so long as amendments were considered, notably, a vote on religious tests for refugees, a direct response to Republican frontrunner Donald Trump’s proposal to ban Muslim immigrants.
The White House has pointed to a two-year vetting process already in place for refugees.
