Concerns Surround Syrian Refugee Bill
The Senate is considering a bill the White House doesn’t like giving Iraqi and Syrian refugees more scrutiny.
FOX’s Jared Halpern has more from the Capitol:
Concern about thousands of Syrian refugees re-settling in the U.S. isn’t rooted in animus.
Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell argues:
(McConnell) “I would suggest they’re motivated by the love of their families and communities.”
McConnell is trying to prevent Senate Democrats from blocking a House-passed bipartisan bill pausing a program to bring in refugees until new vetting safeguards are met:
(Reid) “Scapegoats refugees who are fleeing war and torture.”
But Democratic Leader Harry Reid says a filibuster threat could be dropped with agreement to vote on amendments that would include condemning Donald Trump’s proposal to ban Muslim immigration.
