Match Fixing Surrounds the Australian Open
Tennis authorities pushing back after claims suspicions about match-fixing aren’t being investigated properly.
FOX’s Simon Owen reports from London:
The start of the Australian Open overshadowed by allegations about match-fixing.
The BBC and BuzzFeed News reporting that 16 players, half of whom are playing in today’s championship, have repeatedly caused suspicions over the past ten years, but never faced action. Suspected of taking money to fix matches for betting syndicates.
But Chris Kermode, chair of the ATP which governs the men’s game saying officials:
(Kermode) “Absolutely reject any suggestion that evidence of match fixing has been suppressed.”
Also saying investigators have to find evidence and not just hearsay.
