Detroit Woman With Mental Illness Believes Gun Laws Should be Tougher
President Obama’s call for keeping guns out of the hands of mentally ill people gets support from an unlikely person.
FOX’s Gary Baumgarten reports:
Jannette Williams has suffered from severe mental illness for three decades. She says she once had a legal gun, but it was stolen.
The Detroit woman says getting a permit for another one would be as easy as filling out a 10 question form and showing her driver’s license:
(Williams) “I do have a mental illness and I admit I do. I can go back down there tomorrow and re-do my application and go and get me a gun.”
Williams says the rules should be tightened so that people like her can’t buy guns legally.
But some therapists say under such a rule, some people who might need treatment, won’t get it for fear it will be reported to a national data base.
