Maine Governor Addresses Controversial Racial Comments
The Governor of Maine is apologizing if he misspoke, but denies he was even talking about race when he said something that’s being perceived by some as racist.
FOX’s Chris Foster reports:
The state of Maine has had an increasing problem with drugs and overdoses. Wednesday, Governor Paul LePage blamed the dealers for that and more.
(LePage) “These are guys that are named “D-Money”, “Smoothie”, “Shifty”… these types of guys that come from Connecticut and New York. They come up here, they sell their heroine, then they go back home. Incidentally, half the time they impregnate a young white girl before they leave.”
…About that last part, Governor LePage says now:
(LePage) “Maine is essentially all white. I should’ve said ‘Maine women’.”
As for the drug dealers he was talking about:
(LePage) “I never said anything about white or black on traffickers. Look, you’re reading things into I didn’t say.”
He blames bloggers and the media for turning this into anything.
