Mississippi River Is Expected to Crest Soon in Memphis

The rising Mississippi River is expected to crest soon in Memphis.

FOX’s Tonya J. Powers has more:

The Mississippi River passed flood stage in Memphis several days ago, and is expected to crest at 40.2 feet on Friday. It’s currently at just over 39 feet.

The effect can be seen clearly at the city’s downtown riverfront, where higher water levels have closed a park, and are encroaching on the yards and outdoor storage areas in another area.

County officials are keeping an eye on flood-prone neighborhoods, and fire, police, and preparedness officers have been doing in-person visits to homes to warn people of the flooding potential.

They’ve made more than 170 of those visits in the past week.
