Congress Does Not Expect to Meet Friday Government Funding Deadline

Congress will buy more time to settle on a way to fund government through the new year.

FOX News’ Jared Halpern has more from Capitol Hill:

A Friday night deadline will not be met, instead, Congress is expected to extend government funding into the middle of next week to avoid a government shutdown over the weekend…

(Ryan) “This is something I more or less inherited from the last regime and I don’t want to rush things through here. I want to get it right.”

House Speaker Paul Ryan says negotiations are continuing, he is confident they’ll agree to a trillion dollar funding plan next week.

The tangle is less about dollars and more about policy… Republicans want curbs to the EPA and Syrian refugees… Democrats now insisting on removing a ban on federal gun violence research.
