The Largest Destroyer Ever Built for the Navy Is Out at Sea
The largest destroyer ever built for the U.S. Navy is headed out to sea.
FOX News’ Jon Decker has more from the White House:
The futuristic 600-foot, 15,000-ton USS Zumwalt departed from the shipbuilder Bath Iron Works in Maine on Monday… It will now undergo sea trials where its performance will be tested.
Because of advanced automation, the warship will operate with a much smaller crew size than current destroyers.
The ship has electric propulsion, new radar and sonar, and a stealthy design… All of that innovation has led to construction delays and a growing price tag.
The Zumwalt will cost at least $4.4 billion. The goal is to deliver it to the Navy sometime next year.
