Congress Wants to Avoid a Government Shutdown

It’s likely to be a working weekend for Congress as lawmakers hustle to avoid a government shutdown at the end of the week.

FOX News’ Jared Halpern has more from Capitol Hill:

Government funding expires Friday night… House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy insists a shutdown won’t happen…

(McCarthy) “We know we’ll have to deal with a short-term CR. We will not allow the government not to be funded.”

Congress had hoped to pass a trillion dollar bill funding government through most of next year, before the December 11 deadline, but Republicans and Democrats have sparred over policy provisions.

A short-term stop gap measure would buy time to negotiate through the weekend.
