Big Tuna Merger Is Canned
A big tuna merger is not happening after all…
FOX’s Chris Foster reports:
The owners of ‘Chicken of the Sea’ based in Thailand, announced a year ago it was going to buy ‘Bumble Bee’ based in San Diego.
The companies now say the deal is off, by mutual decision. It was opposed by the Justice Department, as being anti-competitive.
‘Chicken of the Sea’ and ‘Bumble Bee’ are the numbers two and three tuna brands in the United States. There’s also ‘Starkist’ based in Pittsburgh, that’s owned by a South Korean seafood company.
