Chicago Officer Charged With Murder in Death of a Black Teenager

A white Chicago police officer who shot a black teenager sixteen times has been charged with murder.

Veteran Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke is now charged with a murder of black teen Laquan McDonald, who state prosecutor Anita Alvarez says was shot 16 times last year…

(Alvarez) “Officer Van Dyke was on scene for less then 30 seconds before he started shooting.”

McDonald, a burglary suspect, was carrying a knife… Details that defense attorney Dan Herbert says will play out in court…

(Herbert) “We fully anticipate that we will be successful on this case.”

City officials here are also asking for calm here ahead of that Dash Cam video release. The officer is back in court Monday.
