As Americans hit the road for holiday travel....the federal government is again warning bad behavior is putting drivers at risk.

Fox News' Jared Halpern has more from Washington:

Traffic fatalities were down last year about a 0.1%, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration finds the trend reversing this year, deaths estimated to jump about 8%...

(Rosekind) "Chronic safety issues such as drunk driving, speeding, failure to use seat belts and motorcycle helmets continue to cause a high proportion of those deaths."

NHTSA administrator Mark Rosekind points to stubborn statistics.... A third of fatalities a result of drunk driving crashes, about half of all vehicle occupants killed were not wearing seat belts.
