IRS Admits to Using Cell Phone Tracking Equipment

Is the tax man spying on you? It’s possible.

FOX News Radio’s Rachel Sutherland reports from Washington:

The IRS admits it’s using cell phone tracking equipment, which can collect meta-data, but only in criminal cases.

(Koskinen) ”The use of that is restricted. It’s our criminal investigation division that uses that technique.”

IRS Commissioner John Koskinen told a Senate Finance Committee the agency has to get a court order to use tracking technology… And he stressed, it’s used primarily for cases like money laundering, terrorism, and organized crime.

Koskinen agreed to tell the committee how often the technology is used within 30 days.
