President Obama Vetoes $612-Billion Defense Policy Bill
President Obama sends a message to the GOP-led Congress in the form of a veto stamp. Saying no to a bill that stifles his top priorities.
FOX News Radio’s Gurnal Scott has the story:
President Obama says he’s sending the $612-billion defense policy bill back to Capitol Hill because it falls short on several key issues. He wants to untie the Pentagon’s hands.
(President Obama) “To eliminate the sequester and make sure that we’re providing certainty to our military.”
But he says bill resorts to “gimmicks” that compromise security. The President takes issue with another aspect…
(President Obama) ”This legislation specifically impedes our ability to close Guantanamo.”
A key campaign promise the GOP has opposed since his first term. Republican leaders say they’ll seek to override the veto.
