Haroon Aswat Sentenced to Federal Prison After Trying to Set Up U.S. Terror Training Camp

A British man who tried to set up a terrorist training camp in Oregon 16 years ago has been sentenced to federal prison. But apparently, he could get out very soon.

FOX News Radio’s Jessica Rosenthal reports:

Haroon Aswat pleaded guilty to trying to set up an al-Qaeda training camp in Oregon. Authorities say he did it at the request of Abu Hamza al-Masri, who turned a London mosque into a training ground for terrorists.

Aswat was sentenced to 20 years, but after time served already and good behavior, he could be out in as little as six years. The judge ordered him to receive special psychiatric care. His attorney said he’ll request to serve the time back in the U.K. and the judge said she may allow that.

Before sentencing, Aswat thanked the court for the mental health treatment he’s been receiving and said the past decade had humbled him.
