Amtrak Threatens Pre-Christmas Service Cuts, Calls Out Congress
Amtrak has an ominous warning for Capitol Hill lawmakers.
FOX News Radio’s Rachel Sutherland reports from Washington:
Amtrak is threatening to suspend service on its national network before the Christmas holiday if Congress doesn’t extend a Dec. 31 deadline for implementing advanced safety technology.
The rail service sent a letter to Senate Commerce Committee Chair John Thune saying lawmakers must act to install Positive Train Control to enhance train safety. The system alerts personnel to potential dangers and could slow or stop a train that’s speeding.
Amtrak says as of Dec. 1 it will start notifying customers there could be disruptions during the holiday season.
