Settlement Reached with BP Over Gulf Oil Spill
A substantial settlement has been reached. The U.S. Justice Department announcing five states affected by the 2010 Gulf Oil Spill can now drop their legal fight against BP.
FOX News Radio’s Gurnal Scott has the story:
U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced the $20 billion settlement today.
BP as part of the deal will have to lead a comprehensive cleanup of the Gulf region.
Lynch says the settlement is not only intended to prevent a re-occurrence, but also to take a critical next step.
(Lynch) “Insuring that liability translated into real relief for all the inhabitants
of the gulf; the people, the businesses and the fish and wildlife.”
There will be a two month comment period on the settlement.
BP has already paid out nearly $6 billion following the explosion that killed 11 oil rig workers.
