Michael Waltrip Racing Won’t Field Full-Time Car For 2016 Sprint Cup Season

There’s going to be one less team on the NASCAR circuit next year.

FOX News Radio’s Chris Hoenig reports:

Michael Waltrip Racing will not field a full-time car in the Sprint Cup next season. The team has granted driver Clint Bowyer a release to sign with another team for 2016, while David Ragan, their other full-time driver, is unsigned for next year.

(Waltrip) “We have partners, not sponsors. We have teammates, not employees. And I’ll miss that, greatly.”

Co-owner Michael Waltrip says he’s going to focus on his TV role as an analyst for NASCAR on FOX.

And that he still expects Bowyer and Ragan to make the Chase this year.

(Waltrip) “One of my favorite movies is Major League, and you remember when the Indians just decided they were gonna go out and win the whole darn thing? Well, I think that’s what Michael Waltrip Racing is capable of in 2015.”

Fellow co-owner Rob Kauffman is buying a stake in Chip Gnassi Racing for next year.
