White House Announces New Strategy To Fight Heroin Use

There’s a revised strategy in the renewed fight against heroin use.

FOX News Radio’s Jon Decker reports from the White House:

In response to a steep increase in heroin overdoses and deaths across much of the country, the White House will shift the emphasis on dealing with the problem from punishment to the treatment of addicts, as well as tracing the sources of heroin.

The program initially will cost $2.5 million and apply to 15 states in the Northeast. The new program will collect data on overdoses and trends in heroin trafficking as well as train first responders on how to use medication to reverse overdoses.

According to the CDC, the amount of heroin overdoses in the U.S. nearly quadrupled between 2002 and 2013.
