Afghan Government: Taliban Leader Mullah Omar Died In 2013

    Afghan officials saying a notorious Taliban leader is dead.

    FOX News Radio’s Simon Owen reports:

    A statement from the Presidential Palace in Afghanistan saying the government confirms Mullah Omar died in Pakistan in April 2013.

    Omar has been reported dead before. And there’s no comment from the Taliban. But the Afghan government saying it has credible information. Afghan intelligence saying he died in a hospital.

    Omar came to power in Afghanistan in 1996. He gave sanctuary to Usama bin Laden, then refused to hand bin Laden over after 9/11.

    When the U.S. and allies invaded Afghanistan, he fled and was never caught.
